Get a BIG Reaction /
The Great Wine Revolution

Client: Newfoundland and Labrador Liquor Corporation

These two sets of radio spots are perhaps my favorite things I wrote for The Idea Factory, a small advertising agency based in Newfoundland, Canada.

The Get a Big Reaction! spots built on the creative from the previous year, where our good-natured host Colin accosts Christmas shoppers and shows them, via a machine called The Gift-o-matic™, how their terrible gifts are going to be received (not well). I evolved that concept by turning the Gift-o-matic™ into an audio machine that would let Colin’s subjects hear the enthusiastically positive reactions gift-getters would have when they received a new NLC specialty gift card.

I love The Great Wine Revolution spots for their ability to get their message across in 15 seconds, while still managing to catch your attention. Sir Branswort might be my favorite character ever.

The Adventures
of Steve & Alan

Client: Eastlink Cable Company

These spots were the first things I wrote at The Idea Factory. I’ve always been a fan of the smart-guy/dumb-guy dichotomy, and I thought that having Steve explain things to Alan would be a perfect way to showcase Eastlink’s suite of entertainment options. The actors playing Steve and Alan were my first choices for the roles, and I think they both nailed it.
